50 Years Of Sticky History

My girl friend insisted on some sort of biography, so I told her sum stuff, and we actually videotaped that. We hope 2 have that up by the end of the month, so check back soon, and taaanx 4 your interest!

Introduction

Brian Downey is old school, old soul and rare groove, that he learned on the road, living in Detroit + Chicago of the 60ties + 70ties. Brian Downey, born in Schreiber, ON, drummed 4 the original Drifters, shared the stage with Harry Connick Sr., Herb Ellis, Matt Guitar Murphy, John Lee Hooker, Jim Galloway, Charlie Biddle Sr. and played a series of concerts with Chet Baker @ The Chateau Laurier in Ottawa in the 80ties (see photos below), 2 name just a few.

As a young man, the story goes, he started drumming in his first band coz the only drummer in town took off. But Brian Downey had been listening 2 blues radio stations from the south ever since he discovered the “on”-switch. Since those 50 years ago, he never stopped learning from the greats and understated in music whom he worships 4 their musicality, rhythm, integrity and ease on stage to this day.

A seasoned yet evolving performer over decades, his pocket ties bands 2gether from stage 2 stage. This great, grand drummer makes the good feel better and the lost feel found – audiences all over North-America and musicians from all over the world love him 4 that.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, BRIAN!

Chet showed up, didn’t have any horns, so I found him four or five of the worst trumpets you can possibly imagine. He tried everyone of them, while we were having coffee and made everyone of them sound like as if it was a top of the line trumpet.

Check out the big smile on the drums!
